David Barlow

It was with enormous sadness and huge shock that we learned of the utterly senseless killing of David Barlow and his wife Celia at the hands of ISIS terrorists whilst on honeymoon in Uganda on October 27th

David was the youngest of four brothers all of whom are Directors of the local Woodyard on the outskirts of Hermitage. A former St Bart’s pupil he joined the ONA Committee in 2012 and was responsible for introducing the Facebook page to the Association. Being a keen cricketer he played in the annual ONA cricket match versus the School 1st XI and in total served for seven years on the Committee.

He will be sadly missed by all of us who were lucky enough to know and work with him

John King

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John King, a long time teacher at St Bart’s who gave 48 years of devoted service to the School.

A brilliant and intuitive teacher of History and Politics, John was able to transfer his great love of his subject to countless generations of pupils in such a way that they in turn shared his passion as they benefited enormously from his unique style of teaching.

In addition he gave his life to the School in so many other ways as well; through the R.A.F. section of the CCF where he spent countless hours training and organising groups on Dartmoor in preparation for walking the challenging Ten Tors event, which he instigated at the School and similarly for the annual Adventurous Training; training and coaching sports teams in Rugby Football and Cricket whilst at all times giving selflessly of his time and unbounded enthusiasm .

John King is an icon of St Bart’s in every facet of his teaching career and is a genuine legend in the School’s illustrious history. He will be sorely missed by all who were privileged to know him and those pupils lucky enough to experience his memorable teaching and knowledge .
